Ripe Avocados grown in spain and kenya to your kitchen

Most cooking oils earn their place by the hob without much thought. But when you use something so often, we think it’s worth knowing what goes into the bottle and how it got there.

Ours starts with ripe avocados grown in Spain and Kenya, hand-picked and sorted before pressing. That includes fruit that might otherwise be overlooked for being the wrong size, shape or colour.

Because what matters is the quality of the fruit, not whether it looks perfect on a supermarket shelf. The flesh is cold-pressed, then physically filtered without hexanes, solvents or added chemicals. Nothing blended in and nothing unnecessary added. Just 100% extra virgin avocado oil, made with minimal intervention and a respect for the ingredient it came from.

For anyone looking beyond the ultra-processed seed oils found in so many everyday foods, it’s a beautifully simple alternative: one real, recognisable ingredient. And it’s made to be used. Its mild, subtly nutty flavour lets the food around it shine, while a 255°C smoke point takes it confidently into hotter cooking. Fry with it, roast until golden, bake with it, whisk it into dressings and marinades, or simply drizzle it over a finished plate.

Finally, it’s bottled in recyclable dark glass to help protect the oil from light and oxidation. From fruit to bottle, every decision is about making a better-quality oil that deserves to stay within reach.

From a problem everyone had but nobody solved

Hunter & Gather began in 2017 with Amy and Jeff and a belief that everyday food could be made better. Amy grew up coeliac, reading every label and cooking from scratch from an early age. Jeff came to real food through his own journey with diet, lifestyle and supplementation. Different beginnings, but the same belief: food should be made from things your body recognises.

Real ingredients, chosen with purpose, without compromising on taste. It started with a jar of mayonnaise. Today, that same thinking goes into everything we make.

Customer Reviews

What is the smoke point of avocado oil?

255°C, which is high for a cooking oil and makes it suitable for searing, roasting, frying and baking as well as cold dishes. It means one bottle covers the hot end of the kitchen and the finishing drizzle, rather than needing two different oils.

What does avocado oil taste like?

Mild, subtle and softly nutty. It is far less assertive than extra virgin olive oil, so it lets the food around it lead. That makes it the easier of our two oils to use across everything from roast vegetables to baking.

Is Hunter & Gather Avocado Oil high in vitamin E?

Yes. There is 13.8mg of vitamin E per 100ml, which is 115% of the nutrient reference value. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. The oil is also high in monounsaturated fat, at 69g per 100ml.

Where do the avocados come from?

From two supply chains, in Kenya and in Spain. We buy ripe fruit including avocados rejected for export because of their size, shape or colour, which gives growers additional income and keeps perfectly good food from going to waste.

How should I store avocado oil?

Somewhere cool and dark, away from direct sunlight and heat, with the cap closed tightly after each use. The dark glass bottle does some of that work for you by helping protect the oil from light and oxidation.
