Recycling Your Glass Bottles And Jars

10 Quirky Ideas for Recycling, Reusing and Re-loving your Empty Jars and Glassware!

We created our real food range to provide you with products that are not only nutritious and delicious but also environmentally sound. Caring for the environment is one of our founding principles, which is why we limit our use of plastics and use glass containers that are easily recycled. Here are ten creative and quirky ideas to recycle, reuse and re-love your empty Hunter and Gather jars and bottles!

1. Design a Dressing

For a waste-slaying double whammy, keep an inch or so of avocado oil in your glass bottle and mix with fresh herbs, lemon juice and a splash of vinegar for a delicious dressing. Store in the fridge and invest in a fancy nozzle so that you can drizzle, dip and dunk away whilst savouring every drop of avocado deliciousness!

Tip: You can also add the oil from sun-dried tomatoes, roasted peppers or oily fish for a flavoursome flourish!

2. Save your Pennies

Or ten p’s or twenties, or even pounds and two-pounds if you’re feeling ambitious! Our empty mayo jars are the perfect size for collecting loose change. Small enough to seem fill-able but large enough to dish out a cracking cash bonus when full! Treat yourself or someone else when you can no longer screw on the lid.

3. Pot a Plant

Bring a little bit of the outdoors inside with a miniature potted plant that will fit nicely on any windowsill. Simply add a layer of pebbles to allow the water to drain, followed by a layer of soil and then your favourite seeds. Place in a sunny spot and water regularly to see a new lease of life sprout from your empty mayo jar!

Tip: Use our 630g jar for herbs and plants that aren’t so small.

4. Fermenting Food

When it came to food, our ancestors didn’t waste a mouthful! One of their preferred methods of preservation was fermenting foods. An empty jar is the very vessel you need to brine, pickle and ferment to your heart’s content! From the simplest of sauerkrauts to the more complicated kimchi, fermented foods provide a whole host of health benefits.

Tip: Some people recommend getting a fancy airlock jar-lid to perfect the fermentation process, but we’ve discovered that your standard avo mayo lid will do just the trick when screwed on a tad loose!

5. Outdoor Lighting

Winding up a string of fairy lights and securing into one of our glass jars is a simple and effective way to brighten up your outside space. The more jars the merrier – creating a colourful and captivating display of jar lights. What better excuse to eat as much avo mayo as possible?

Tip: Keep tight a-hold of your mayo jar lids and avo oil bottle tops for a weatherproof seal that will protect your DIY outdoor lights year-round!

6. Create a Candle

Making your own candle is a lot easier than you’d think! All you need is your preferred wax, a candle wick and your choice of essential oils. Not only does this give you fragrance free reign to totally customise your candle, but it’s also the economical choice for candle worshippers – scent-sational!

Tip: Use the lid of the jar to safely snuff-out your candle when you’re off to bed!

7. Eco-Friendly Cleaning

Create-your-own cleaning products is a growing trend for the eco-friendly among us. That’s because nasty ingredients which are harmful to the environment are commonplace in shop-bought alternatives. Using all-natural ingredients to make your own is a cheap, pollutant-free, effective and often easy way to boost your spring clean with the power of mother nature!

Tip: Our avocado oil bottles are the perfect size for a handy screw-in spray nozzle, to make your hand-crafted cleaning potion go the extra mile!

8. Welcome in Wildlife

Whether it’s a water dish for hedgehogs, a seed dispenser for birds or a hanging butterfly feeder – recycling your empty jars to welcome wildlife into your garden is an all-round planet protector. Our jars are easily to clean and restock – helping you to do adapt your outside space for whatever animal nature throws your way!

Tip: Camouflage your jar with some nature-coloured glass paint to protect its contents from predators!

9. Get Organised

We’ve all got that one drawer that’s full to the brim with miscellaneous bits and bobs we can’t part with but can never seem to keep on top of! Taking an hour or so out of your day to separate out these weird and wonderful items will be oh so worthwhile for that sensational smugness when it comes to locating that hair bobble, button, screw or key you suddenly need in a hurry!

Tip: These handy chalkboard jar labels will help to separate your bits from your bobs without creating confusion!

10. Glam-Up a Gift

Jazzing up your empty mayo jar is the perfect personalisation for a smaller present. Embellish with colour, glitter or the receiver’s initials for that extra thoughtfulness to bank those brownie points! If you really want to show you care, why not deliver breakfast in bed served with a single flower in an empty avocado oil bottle? Your loved one will never guess the delicious past of their personalised presents!

Tip: If you’re struggling to remove that last piece of glue or paper from the label, wipe gently with some avocado oil  to polish to perfection!

We hope we’ve given you some food for thought when it comes to reusing, recycling and re-loving your empty jars and bottles! Next time you’ve scraped your last serving of mayo or drizzled the final few drips of avocado oil, despair not – you now have the tools you need to create something wonderful, whilst awaiting your next refill of course!
