UNLOCK RADIANCE FROM WITHIN

The Perfect way to start your day

Modern conventional lifestyles are affecting the way we look & feel! Not getting enough natural light first thing, carby breakfast on the run, spending our lives on screens & diets full of seed oils & refined sugar; it’s a recipe for a health & beauty disaster.

New research also recommends delaying caffeine for 90 minutes post waking & the importance of sunlight vs artificial light first thing - think getting outside before grabbing that phone & coffee.

Try out our ancestral inspired 5 step morning routine to help you feel better on the inside & look better on the outside too.

WHY TAKE COLLAGEN, VITAMIN C AND HYALURONIC ACID?

Collagen is essential for maintaining healthy, vibrant skin, hair and nails due to its role as a structural protein for elasticity and regeneration of all of our connective tissues. As we age, our collagen levels start to drop, starting as early as our 20's. Many of us are lacking in nutritional sources of collagen, which our ancestors would have got in abundance from eating nose to tail (including skin/tendons).

Hyaluronic Acid, known for its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, ensures that your skin stays optimally hydrated for that dewy, luminous complexion.

Vitamin C —  a renowned skin, hair and nail superfood, is a powerhouse antioxidant that helps your skin fight off free radicals. It’s known, when combined with collagen, to boost its synthesis to help your body to absorb the collagen, which in turn is able to enhance your skin’s texture and radiance.

BENEFITS OF Rise & Glow

Rise & Glow’s unique blend works by fusing together powerful natural ingredients to revitalise your skin, nail hair health, making it your perfect morning beauty tonic.

Rise & Glow is more than just your beauty secret…it’s the key to making a change in your morning beauty regime and making healthier lifestyle choices, so you can radiate naturally from within.

Hi, we are Amy and Jeff, co-founders of Hunter & Gather, an ancestrally inspired lifestyle brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend taking 1 heaped Tbsp (roughly 14g) per day. Which you can add to a large glass (250ml) of cold water (with ice), hot water to make a tea or even sprinkle over yoghurt or mix into smoothies.

You can also use Rise & Glow alongside our other collagens later in the day (such as bovine, marine or the creamers).

There is a whopping 5,000mg of pure, wild-caught marine collagen per 14g serve. We recommend up to 10,000mg of marine collagen per day. So you can have 2 drinks of Rise & Glow per day, or you can also include bovine collagen or another of our collagen products (such as the creamers) later in the day.

We use our much loved Wild-Caught Marine Collagen in our Rise & Glow beauty tonic blend.

We have been asked by our wonderful customers consistently for us to create a natural collagen product that supports their beauty from the inside out without added bulkers, fillers or poor-quality collagen.

What we eat is so heavily linked to the way we look and often signs of poor nutrition can show in dry brittle hair, flaking nails and dull skin. So, we want to help you nourish your body from the inside out, so that you can glow from within.

New evidence has also come out that we should not drink coffee for the first 90 minutes of waking. We know how much you all love taking your collagen in a coffee first thing, so we wanted to provide a hydrating alternative that you can have as soon as you wake up. It’s also a great way to kick off our “Rise & Glow” morning routine, which includes getting your feet on the earth and morning light (where possible).

New evidence has also come out that we should not drink coffee for the first 90 minutes of waking. It’s also a great way to kick off our “Rise & Glow” morning routine, which includes getting your feet on the earth and morning light (where possible).

New evidence suggests that we should wait at least 90 minutes before we consume coffee. For many of you, we know you want to get your collagen intake in as part of your morning routine. Rise & Glow is therefore a great alternative to coffee first thing. You can still have a collagen coffee later in the day as well as the Rise & Glow.

The best time is always the time when you are going to remember to take collagen consistently – so whatever works best for you –  be it first thing in the morning, or at lunch time.

Absolutely, there is 5,000mg of collagen per serve of Rise & Glow, therefore you could also have a cup of coffee with our collagen creamer, or add a scoop of bovine alongside the Rise & Glow (if you like to also add the benefits of gut health, muscle & bone repair).

Acerola (often known as the Acerola Cherry) is a berry from a shrub-like tree which is native to Central America and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean. Our Acerola berries come from Brazil.

Acerola is often and confusingly referred to as a ‘cherry’, but it is not. We have chosen to include the Acerola berry as it’s a natural source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is not only necessary to maintain energy and general vitality, but it contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. You will often find added Vitamin C to collagen blends, but we wanted to use a natural source that could be gathered from berries vs a synthetic ingredient.

We chose to use organic certified berries (blueberry, raspberry & blackcurrant) mainly due to the lack of high quality non-organic options available. We only use non-organic options when the ingredients are lab-tested for pesticides and do not contain any additional bulkers or fillers (like our avocado oil for example) as well as this being better for the environment (avoiding mono-crops for example). We were only able to find organic berries that met our strict criteria.

With the marine collagen, because the fish are “wild-caught” it’s not possible to get organic certified marine collagen. We also do not use farmed fish. As the product is made up mostly of marine collagen — which is not a certified organic product — we cannot call the full product ‘organic’. We do, however, lab-test our marine collagen.

Although Acerola is commonly called a cherry – it is in fact a berry. A small pinky red colour berry from a shrub like tree.

Yes, hyaluronic acid is Paleo and Keto friendly and is a naturally occurring substance in the body (a bit like collagen). It’s often used in cosmetics and supplements to support skin moisture, suppleness but is also used to support joint health and lubrication.

Hyaluronic acid is produced by fermenting certain types of bacteria.

We have added hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C to our Rise & Glow recipe, to make it more targeted and synergistic as a “beauty from the inside” tonic in comparison to our pure collagen products. Vitamin C itself has not been added, but instead plants that contain high levels of vitamin C such as acerola berry, to make it even more bioavailable. Vitamin C is required as a cofactor in endogenous collagen synthesis - which is something that we are trying to encourage with this product by nourishing the skin from the inside out. Vitamin C cannot be made by the body so it’s essential that we get a steady supply from our diet or supplementation, particularly if we want to delay our body’s natural decline in collagen production.

Hyaluronic acid is something you may know from topical beauty products, but it’s a natural polysaccharide chain found throughout the body where it serves as part of the supporting structure in the extracellular space. It is found most abundantly in cartilage, skin and synovial fluid around joints. The addition of hyaluronic acid may help to increase the anti-ageing potential of the product. Some research suggests that when combined with collagen and used over a 3 month period, it improves the appearance of wrinkles and skin dryness. Oral hyaluronic acid seems to modestly decrease levels of inflammatory cytokines, helping generally to reduce inflammation.

There is a whopping 40mg of natural Vitamin C per serve of Rise & Glow which is 50% of your NRV (Nutrient Reference Value) per day. We use natural Acerola berries, a luscious pinky red fruit from Brazil, which is packed with Vitamin C and has a high antioxidant capacity. It’s also linked to anti-ageing*

The recommended dosage of Hyaluronic Acid per day is between 120mg per day and 240mg. We therefore included 120mg per serve. If you did want to have more than one serving per day, we would recommend no more than 2 in a 24 hour period consistently.

Hibiscus flower is a beautiful pink-coloured flower that when dried has a sweet, cranberry- like taste. It is also packed with beta-carotene, Vitamin C and anthocyanin to support your overall health and wellness. The Hibiscus brings a light, fresh flavour to the Rise & Glow blend.

Rise & Glow is a tonic that is added to water (still or sparkling). It has a light flavour which isn’t overly sweet or bitter. The berries mask any flavour of the collagen and the hibiscus brings a slight floral undertone. Bitterness from the Acerola berry brings an almost citrus freshness and it’s best served with ice or ice cold water.

We recommend taking 1 heaped scoop (1 heaped tbsp) of Rise & Glow in a large glass of water (250ml). Iced water is best, but you can use sparkling water also. You could also add to hot water to make a fruity tea, or stir it into yoghurts or smoothies.

14g per serve or 1 heaped tablespoon. Add to a large glass of water (250ml) hot or cold. Alternatively sprinkle over yoghurt or add into smoothies.

If you are using 1 heaped tbsp (14g) per day, there are at least 21 days (or servings) per pack.

We believe that having a great morning routine is key to an ancestral lifestyle. Delaying that first coffee until 90 minutes after awakening is a great start, as well as hydrating with water, getting sunlight before screens (where possible) and grounding your bare feet on the earth. Rise & Glow is a great tasting tonic that you can make first thing, take to the gym, take outside whilst grounding, or on a morning walk. It’s a great way to push back that coffee and to ensure you are hydrating with water.

Baobab is a superfruit from a tree known as “Africa’s Tree of Life.” The fruit naturally dries on the tree in its coconut-type shell and once opened, the inside of the fruit is dried into a powder.

Baobab is high in Vitamin C, antioxidants and is a great prebiotic due its fiber content. A study by Oxford Brookes University showed that baobab significantly reduced the rate at which sugar was released into the blood after digestion. As such, baobab is considered ideal for those following a low GI diet and it could also be beneficial for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

Baobab also adds to the flavour of the Rise & Glow tonic, with a citrus, sweet taste, making it have a pleasant, refreshing taste.

The Marine Collagen that we use in Rise & Glow is wild-caught, MSC Certified and free from antibiotics and hormones. It’s also Type 1 collagen, which is great for skin, hair and nail health.

Yes, we offer a 30 day money back guarantee if you do not like or cannot use the Rise & Glow Product. Please reach out to our customer support team here

To see the benefits of collagen, it can take 6-12 weeks to fully see results. This is due to new hair follicles growing and thicker nail growth. We do, however, see some customers seeing results such as fine line and wrinkle improvements as well as moisture in the skin much earlier. We recommend using at least 2 bags before you will start seeing a difference however, so do persist and it will be worth it.

The most noticeable improvements you are likely to see with Rise & Glow is the improvement in skin moisture, structure and softening of fine lines and wrinkles. Hair and nail health are also areas which many see improvements when using marine collagen, Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. So get ready for luscious locks, thicker, stronger nails and a more youthful appearance.

There are a few reasons why it might not be best to have caffeine first thing in the morning. One of them is based on the relationship between caffeine and cortisol. Cortisol is our stress and alertness hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Every morning, our daily levels spike within the first hour of waking. They then decrease rapidly over the subsequent few hours and gradually diminish throughout the remainder of the day.

If you consume caffeine when your cortisol levels are still high, such as immediately upon waking, you're introducing caffeine into your system when it may not be as beneficial, and should not naturally be necessary. This can interfere with the natural flow of cortisol and the pressure we put on our adrenals to keep pumping it out. There’s also research to show that relying on stimulants like caffeine first thing in the morning might lead to a tolerance buildup over time, requiring increased coffee intake for the same energising effects.

However, if you wait an hour or two before having your coffee, the caffeine will take effect as your cortisol levels start to decrease—precisely when you need the boost the most.

The suggestion of 90 minutes has famously come from Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman based on how our cortisol and caffeine levels interact, and based on research around the way that caffeine interacts with the compound adenosine. Adenosine - the compound responsible for inducing sleepiness and sometimes referred to as our ‘sleep pressure gauge’ - accumulates throughout the day, contributing to increasing feelings of fatigue until we rest. As ATP (energy) levels decrease, adenosine increases and tells the body to start conserving energy. During sleep, the body eliminates adenosine, promoting a refreshed state upon waking. However, if we don’t get enough sleep and the adenosine can’t fully clear from the system, this can cause us to wake up feeling tired (and even more likely to reach for a coffee).

Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, preventing the typical drowsy effects. However, as the caffeine's influence diminishes, the retained adenosine resurfaces, leading to a return of fatigue. If we allow the natural cortisol to clear the leftover adenosine before we drink caffeine, we’re less likely to interfere with the whole process.

Cortisol is produced in our adrenals, so it’s important to hydrate effectively and help to support their function in the morning with a drink that’s not coffee. Alongside electrolytes (including sodium), feeding the adrenals with forms of vitamin C such as those we’ve incorporated into Rise & Glow is going to be a really good option first thing, as our adrenal glands love vitamin C.

We need exposure to the sun as it is literally the ‘guiding light’ for the human diurnal circadian rhythm. This is the near-24-hour body clock that makes us wake in the day and sleep at night. This rhythm is intrinsic to almost every physiological process in the body (which is why you feel utterly rubbish when you’re jet lagged). And how do you think we keep our circadian rhythm in sync? We do it by exposing ourselves to the sun. Through our eyes, and our skin.

Sunlight activates the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus - the central pacemaker of the circadian timing system. Exposure to sunlight is the most potent cue for entraining our circadian rhythms - helping to synchronise our internal clock with the external world. Information received by light will be used by the SCN to guide a cascade of hormonal changes that control feelings such as alertness versus tiredness, and hunger versus satiety. A lot of these feelings are driven by melatonin and cortisol and leptin, which are the master circadian hormones which impact all of your other hormones downstream.

Evidence has shown that outdoor exposure to sunlight first thing in the morning, is going to be the most powerful trigger for setting your circadian rhythm, making you feel alert and energised for the day, and improving sleep. This is because viewing sunlight stimulates a rise in cortisol in the morning - making you feel alert and stimulating metabolic processes during the day, while also setting a biological timer for sleep that evening. The research on exactly how much morning sunlight exposure we need is still insubstantial as there are varying factors depending on the individual, environment and seasons, but it’s recommended to aim for at least 5 minutes (in direct sun), ideally 30 minutes.

The reason why sunlight is the only light that we can use to guide a healthy circadian rhythm is because it is (the only natural source of light that we’ve evolved with and it is) ‘full-spectrum’. By that, I mean that it provides every colour of light at some point throughout the day. And if you think of yourself as a painting, you will use every different frequency/colour of that sunlight for a different purpose in the body - again, only if you are actually exposed to it, without glass, contacts, or sunscreen getting in the way.

Grounding, also known as earthing, refers to the practice of connecting with the Earth's surface by walking barefoot on grass, soil, sand, or other natural surfaces, or by using grounding devices that transfer the Earth's energy to the body.

The practice works because we live on a giant battery. The surface of the earth is electrically charged and we are bioelectrical beings that run off electrons. The ‘electron transport chain’ is a critical phase in energy metabolism during which ATP - the energy currency in the body - is generated. Electrons are also needed in many other biological processes including driving our heart beat and controlling water balance (hence ‘electrolytes’).

There is a growing body of quality scientific studies that have reported evidence of significant health improvements when the body is grounded vs. non-grounded. The speed at which grounding charges the body is instantaneous, but the longer you spend doing it, the more effective it is likely to be at improving your health. It has been shown to reduce inflammation, oxidative damage, pain, stress, while improving blood flow, mood, energy levels, and sleep. What’s more, grounding, just like exposure to sunlight, has also been said to help regulate the body’s circadian rhythm. This is why grounding while exposing ourselves to morning sun is a powerful combination practice.

We love grounding because it’s so simple, feels entirely natural and innate, and is a free and easy antidote to the Global epidemic of chronic inflammatory conditions.

There might be a very minor chance that the potency of oestrogen therapy increases if you use Rise & Glow concurrently with HRT based on the Vitamin C content. Increases in plasma oestrogen levels of up to 55% have occurred under some circumstances when vitamin C is taken concurrently with oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy. It is suggested that vitamin C prevents oxidation of oestrogen in the tissues, regenerates oxidised oestrogen, and reduces sulphate conjugation of oestrogen in the gut wall. When tissue levels of vitamin C are high, these processes are already maximised and supplemental vitamin C does not have any effect on oestrogen levels. However, increases in plasma oestrogen levels may occur when women who are deficient in Vitamin C take supplements.

We need to highlight that, as it is what the research shows. However, that research has been using synthetic high strength vitamin C. As the Rise & Glow product is not a high-strength vitamin C supplement, the chances of these effects being significant are unlikely.

Everyone is different, so we’re not in a position to confirm whether or not the product will specifically improve acne and scarring. We also haven’t specifically tested the product in those kinds of skin cases. It’s also important to understand that there can be so many underlying causes of acne, so this product is unlikely to completely solve things for you. However, in terms of the ingredients that we’ve used and their individual benefits on skin regeneration and lowering inflammation, there is every chance that this product will help to support.

A 2019 study looked at a similar collagen peptide product which also contained vitamin C, acerola and some additional nutrients (not included in our product) used by women aged 35+. Within 12 weeks, the women saw an improvement in skin hydration, skin roughness, and density. As collagen supports skin firmness, which can firm up the skin around your pores, reducing the size of pores, and helping with healing. However there is no specific research to show that collagen specifically helps with acne.

Nevertheless, hyaluronic acid has been shown to have antibacterial and wound healing properties - both of which may well contribute towards reducing severity of acne breakouts.

Furthermore, vitamin C (found in acerola, baobab, hibiscus and other ingredients in Rise & Glow) has anti-inflammatory properties that help control sebum production within the skin that may further support acne.

Skin care products like creams, lotions, and serums, when applied topically, frequently struggle to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin effectively for a sustained impact on the ageing processes. The objective of reaching the dermis - crucial for collagen synthesis restoration - is much more likely to be realised through oral collagen peptide supplementation.

We’ve made a consumable food-based supplement with a number of highly bioavailable natural ingredients that synergistically support collagen synthesis and reduce oxidative damage in the body. It contains no unnatural or toxic ingredients like most face creams do, and it can support each individual’s system based on their collagen / healing requirements. We believe that fuelling the body from the inside out is a much more effective approach than using topical creams.

Broadly this product is made with all naturally occurring ingredients, at modest dosages, so it should be well tolerated by the majority of people. It is free from gluten, dairy, common allergens and additives.

Oxalate issues or kidney stones: Acerola might increase the risk of oxalate kidney stone formation due to its vitamin C content, especially in patients prone to oxalate stone formation. Vitamin C is metabolised to oxalic acid, so increased consumption of vitamin C increases the urinary concentration of oxalic acid. This may be exacerbated by the collagen in the product as this can convert to oxalic acid in the body, and some of the other ingredients such as raspberry which is rich in oxalates. People with a history of oxalate kidney stones (the most common type of nephrolithiasis) may wish to avoid the product.

Latex allergy: Theoretically, acerola might precipitate an allergic reaction in people allergic to latex. There was a case report of a man with a history of latex allergy who developed pruritic rash, dyspnea, and tachycardia after drinking acerola juice. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to acerola were identified in his serum. Researchers ultimately determined the reaction to be caused by cross-reactivity between a latex protein and acerola, but this is only based on this one study.

If you’re having surgery: Theoretically, hibiscus might interfere with blood glucose control during and after surgical procedures. For this reason you might be best discontinuing the product at least 2 weeks before elective surgical procedures.

Histamine intolerance: Some people with histamine intolerance issues and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) can find that their symptoms flare as a result of using collagen supplementation, so you may also wish to proceed with caution.

Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may choose to proceed with caution. There is insufficient evidence to confirm the safety of using certain ingredients e.g. oral hyaluronic acid within the formula in pregnancy and breastfeeding because no testing has yet been done. All the ingredients are naturally occurring in plant foods or our bodies, so the risk of issues is likely to be low, however, if you don’t want to risk it, we recommend avoiding the product and using the straight marine collagen supplement while pregnant and breastfeeding instead.

It’s really important to highlight that specific ingredients are unlikely to magically reverse hair loss, because it’s important to consider the root cause of the hair loss in the first place. However as part of a wider care routine, Rise & Glow could well be beneficial. Collagen has been used in studies and practice to help improve hair quality, and hyaluronic acid has properties that may help to reduce hair loss. It is very hydrating for the follicles and the scalp, can increase blood flow and is anti-inflammatory.

Keeping your skin healthy, having a good hair care routine without the use of toxic products containing parabens and sulfates, maintaining a healthy diet which is rich in B vitamins and minerals such as zinc and iron, and managing stress are also going to be extremely important if you have hair loss concerns.

Experience the authentic goodness of real berries in our Rise & Glow collagen! Please note that due to our commitment to using only natural ingredients, some residue may remain when mixed with water. Embrace the wholesome benefits of real fruit over artificial additives and enjoy prioritising nature's goodness!

To make the perfect Rise & Glow, we recommend:

Step 1 - add 1tbsp of R&G to a glass

Step 2 - fill 1/3 of the glass with water, and use a whisk to stir

Step 3 - top the glass up and stir again

Step 4 - enjoy straight away

(Using hot water enhances the dissolving process)
