Organic Grass Fed British Beef Tallow
With a high smoke point (220c), you can use beef tallow for roasting, frying or baking. It tastes like a subtle beefy flavoured butter. It's also great in various culinary applications like grilling steak, cooking eggs, or stir-frying veggies. Tallow can even be used in your homemade soaps, skincare products, and candles due to its unique texture and nourishing properties.
Tallow is a mix of good fats: saturated and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats (about 50%). These fats are good for your heart and don't raise LDL cholesterol. Plus, tallow contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, great for eyes, skin, bones, and immunity. It also contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), linked to muscle maintenance, fat loss, and heart health. Our Story
Tallow is fat that is gently heated (rendered) with all impurities removed. It is then allowed to come back to room temperature where it is in a solid state.
Hunter & Gather Tallow is made from Suet fat only – this is the prized fat around the kidney of the cow and has been treasured by our ancestors for millenia.
It can be used for a range of cooking applications such as frying, roasting and even baking.
Tallow is even great as moisturiser for your hair, body and face.
Once opened, store in a fridge. Please always use a clean spoon.
Well, both fats are traditional animal based fats that have been used for centuries, if not millennia by our ancestors and traditional cultures around the world.
Both fats are incredible in their own right with unique properties and have a role to play in supporting your health along with your cooking and culinary adventures!
Tallow and Ghee have different taste profiles with Tallow being more neutral and earthy and won’t override the flavour of your dish, whereas Ghee has a more complex flavour with a beautiful creamy buttery taste with hints of caramel that impart a rich, deep flavour on dishes.
As you know, Hunter & Gather Organic Tallow is made exclusively from the suet fat of organically raised grass-fed British cattle.
Tallow consistency can vary due to seasonality, weather and ambient temperature fluctuations and cattle breed variation.
We will never use processing aids, other ingredients or other oils in our Tallow meaning it can vary in taste, texture, and consistency from time to time.
Just like Ghee or Coconut Oil, it can become more liquid, grainy, and looser in consistency (sometimes with a thin layer of oil on top) when the temperature is warmer.
When the weather is cooler, it can be smoother and firmer. So, in summary, Tallow can vary from a smooth and firm finish to a more looser, grainy finish.
Both are equally delicious, nutritious, and incredible to use.
Pro Tip: If you desire a smooth and polished finish, you can gently heat (on a very low heat) your tallow in a pan or slow cooker, letting it cool slightly pour back into the jar, and then quickly cool in the fridge.
