How to make a Low Carb Keto smoothie
Smoothies are almost always made using fruit - an ingredient which most see as one of the healthiest foods there is.
However, many fruits are high in sugar. This is naturally occurring sugar which some feel is better than added refined sugars - but to Ketosis sugar is sugar! So however healthful your smoothie is, if it's filled with high sugar fruit it won't be suitable for your Keto lifestyle due to the high carb count and impact on blood sugars.
The good news is that there are some fruits that are naturally lower in sugar and can be added to your smoothie to bring all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants we love about fruit - but minus the carb/sugar overload!
So instead of using sweet fruits like banana, mango, pineapple, dates and dried fruit - choose things like avocado, citrus fruit, berries or green vegetables instead.

What to add to a Keto smoothie
It's easy to make a Low Carb Keto friendly smoothie by following the suggestions above 👆But a Keto smoothie is not just about keeping the carbs low, you also want your smoothie to contribute to your intake of protein and healthy fats. It's about nutrient density for us in every bite or sip!
We've added our Collagen Peptides to this recipe to boost the protein content. Our hydrolysed collagen peptides are neutral in flavour so are easily added to recipes such as this to provide a highly bioavailable source of essential amino acids.
We also add a tablespoon of 100% Coconut Derived MCT Oil to increase the healthy fat content and provide a source of sustainably released energy. Our MCT Oil is made using 100% organically grown coconuts, so is a pure and natural source of healthy fats.
Collagen and MCT oil are neutral in taste and a little goes a long way! So adding both to your smoothie is a great way to elevate it from Keto friendly to Keto perfection! You can learn more about 2 of our favourite Keto supplements in the articles below.
