What did the cheese say to itself in the mirror? "Hallou - Mee" ... get it?
Ok, enough of the cheesy jokes but in all seriousness, these grain-free cheese fries are the absolute family crowd-pleaser. Creamy, delicious and perfect dunked with some avocado oil mayonnaise - yum!
What is Halloumi cheese made from?
Did you know that traditional Halloumi is made with the milk from sheep and/or goats milk. We call this cheese "squeaky cheese" and it's bendy texture makes it perfect for these fries.
Is Halloumi cheese Keto Friendly?
Yes - Halloumi cheese is Keto friendly and can be utilised as a part of a Keto Lifestyle. Halloumi cheese has roughly 1.3g of carbs per 80g serving and 19.7g of fat. Be sure to check the halloumi you buy if you are tracking your macros.
Is all Cheese Keto Friendly?
You may be surprised to hear that not all cheese is Keto friendly - you say what! Some cheeses, especially processed or pre-grated cheese can have an anti-sticking powder used, which can be rice-based, potato-based, maltodextrin based etc and will increase the carb content. Opt for solid chunks of cheese and grate at home if you are unsure.
Can I eat Halloumi cheese if I am intolerant to cow's milk?
Yes sometimes - Halloumi cheese should be made from goats or sheep's milk. But buyer beware, some brands use cow's milk to cut costs - so ALWAYS check the back of the packet before eating.

What you need (Ingredients):
- 2 blocks of halloumi cheese, sliced into fry shapes
- ½ cup or 65 grams coconut flour
- 1 cup or 100 grams of almond flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp parsley flakes
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp non-dairy milk
- Hunter and Gather Avocado Oil Mayonnaise for dipping
What You Do (Method):
- Preheat the oven to 200 Celsius and prepare a baking sheet. For optimal crispness, place a cooling rack on top of a baking sheet for the halloumi to sit on. This allows the air to circulate around the halloumi fry as it bakes.
- In one bowl, combine the coconut flour, salt and pepper. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine the almond flour, garlic powder, dried parsley and paprika.
- Take each slice of halloumi and dip it first into the coconut flour and tap off the excess. Next, toss it in the egg mixture, ensuring it’s well coated before moving to the almond flour mixture. Press the almond flour onto all sides of the halloumi until a thin crust forms. Place the halloumi fry onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Once all of the fries are coated, place in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on how crispy you’d like your fries. Turn the fries over once halfway through the cooking.
- Serve alongside of Hunter and Gather Mayonnaise of your choosing!
