Last month, we opened the doors to our one-day Bone Broth Café in Shoreditch, a space built to celebrate real food, community, and creativity. For one day only, we brought bone broth into the heart of East London and transformed it into an experience you could taste, see, and be part of.

What unfolded was a lively mix of movement, good food, thoughtful conversation, and music, a day that felt bigger than the walls it lived in.

Here’s a look inside.

Why We Brought a Bone Broth Café to Shoreditch

Bone broth has long been a kitchen staple, but this event was about showing what it can become outside the home: warm, comforting, versatile, and surprisingly modern.

Our goal was simple:

To bring people together, share real-food experiences, and showcase bone broth in ways people hadn’t tried before, from innovative drinks to grain-free baked goods and a lunch menu built entirely around broth.

Shoreditch, with its energy and creativity, was the perfect neighbourhood for it.

Kicking Off the Day With a Run Club and Electrolytes

We started the morning bright and early with a community run club, gathering at the café before heading out into the streets of Shoreditch. The energy was high, trainers laced, sleeves rolled up, and a group ready to move.

When everyone returned, they were welcomed with electrolytes, a refreshing way to start the day and set the tone for everything that came next.

It was the perfect beginning: active, connected, and full of momentum.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was our Bone Broth Drinks Bar, where every drink on the menu started with broth.

Visitors enjoyed:

  • Bone Broth Latte

  • Bone Broth Hot Chocolate

  • Classic Sipping Broth

It was a chance for people to taste broth in ways they hadn’t before, comforting, creative, and full of flavour. Warm cups in hand, everyone gathered around the café’s counter space, chatting, trying new combinations, and discovering new favourites.

The drinks alone became a talking point of the day.

To accompany the broth drinks served throughout the day, we partnered with Sow & Arrow, a real-food bakery and wellness brand known for its commitment to grain-free, refined-sugar-free, and nutrient-focused ingredients.

For the event, Sow & Arrow provided a selection of keto-friendly, real-food baked goods, all made with wholesome ingredients and free from refined sugars, sweeteners, and seed oils. Guests enjoyed:

A Panel Conversation Led by Julia Bradbury

Mid-morning, the café shifted into an intimate seated gathering for a panel talk led by Julia Bradbury, broadcaster, author, and one of our valued Hunter & Gather ambassadors.

Julia has long championed real-food living, and having her host the conversation brought both warmth and credibility to the room. She was joined by a thoughtful and diverse panel including Jeff, co-founder of Hunter & Gather; Pauline Cox, nutritionist and founder of Sow & Arrow; and Melissa Hemsley, cook, author, and long-time advocate for simple, nourishing home cooking.

Together, they explored:

  • Bone broth’s place in modern food culture

  • How people incorporate broth into everyday meals

  • The growing movement toward simple, real-food cooking

  • The creativity and accessibility behind broth-based dishes

Each speaker brought a unique perspective,  Jeff sharing insights from building the brand, Pauline discussing real-food principles through the lens of her nutritional background, and Melissa offered her experience developing recipes such as the Tinolang Manok served at lunch.

The discussion was open, grounded, and engaging, giving attendees a deeper appreciation for how bone broth fits into today’s food landscape. It quickly became one of the standout moments of the entire café, creating a genuine sense of connection and shared purpose.

Lunchtime at the Bone Broth Café

From midday onward, the café opened fully to the public, serving a lunch menu built entirely around bone broth, each dish created to show just how flavourful, comforting, and versatile broth can be.

The menu featured three hero dishes:

  • Beef Massaman Curry — slow-cooked, deeply aromatic, and gently spiced

  • Beef Bourguignon — rich, savoury, and beautifully tender

  • Tinolang Manok — a nourishing Filipino-inspired chicken dish, created from a recipe kindly provided by panelist and cook, Melissa Hemsley

These dishes offered a global take on broth-based cooking: bold, warming plates that drew people in throughout the afternoon.

As the lunchtime crowd moved through Shoreditch, the café grew busier, full of conversation, steaming bowls, and guests discovering the event as they walked past. Some stayed for a quick bowl; others settled in, lingering over lunch and exploring the drink menu alongside the food.

It became exactly what we hoped it would be: a welcoming place people wanted to gather, taste, and stay awhile.

Afternoon Music & Community

By late afternoon, music filled the space, softening the edges of the day and turning the café into a relaxed, welcoming hangout.

People came in after work, others drifted back from the morning events, and some stayed for hours, enjoying a drink, chatting with friends, and soaking in the atmosphere.

It was the kind of afternoon where time moves slowly and easily, the perfect close to a full day.

What This Day Meant for Us

The Bone Broth Café wasn’t just about serving broth; it was about creating an experience that brought real food to life.

It showed what can happen when:

  • community steps into a shared space

  • food & nutrition are both simple and imaginative

  • people gather around something meaningful

  • an ingredient becomes a moment

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us, from the run club in the morning to the last conversations in the afternoon.

This was our first café event of its kind, and it won’t be the last. There is so much more to come.
