What I eat in a day

People often ask me what I eat in a day.

The honest answer is that no two days look exactly the same, but the rhythm is usually fairly consistent.

Family life, growing Hunter & Gather and leading a business built to serve others all ask a lot of me. I find the work incredibly rewarding, but building a fast-growing company with a meaningful mission can take its toll if I'm not looking after my own foundations too.

So I keep coming back to the basics: nutrient-dense food, natural light, movement, minerals, time to reflect, and a steady rhythm that helps me stay present for my family, our team and the work we're doing.

I'm not interested in perfection. I'm interested in the foods and practices that help me feel nourished, resilient and able to keep showing up well. Here's what that tends to look like.

Morning: electrolytes and creatine

I usually begin with electrolytes and creatine. For me, this is less about conventional sports nutrition and more about supporting the fundamentals: hydration, minerals, recovery, strength and everyday energy.

When you're building a business, there is always something that needs your attention. People, decisions, ideas, problems and opportunities. That can be energising, but it can also be demanding on the body and mind. Starting the day with electrolytes and creatine is one simple way I support myself before things gather pace.

I also try to get outside into natural light early in the day. Even a few quiet minutes helps me feel more awake, grounded and connected to the natural rhythm of the morning.

Coffee, the pause before the day really begins

Then comes coffee, which is one of my favourite moments of the day. At home, I usually drink Exhale. I enjoy grinding the beans and brewing it properly. There's something about the process that creates a natural pause before the day really begins. Most mornings, I add our Grass Fed Collagen Peptides. It dissolves easily, doesn't interfere with the flavour, and lets me add a little more nourishment to something I already enjoy.

When I'm travelling, I tend to take our Collagen Coffee instead. It gives me coffee and grass-fed collagen together in a format that's easy to pack and prepare, without compromising on the standards that matter to me. The coffee is also tested for mycotoxins, which gives me greater confidence in something I may be drinking regularly.

That's generally how I like to approach health. I don't want a complicated routine that becomes another responsibility to manage. I want simple choices that fit naturally into my life and are easy to repeat, even when I'm away from home. We also add collagen to slow-cooked stews and ragù. It blends in easily and works well in the sort of family meals we already enjoy.

Through the day: nutrient density above all

Through the day, the main principle is nutrient density. My meals change, but I'll usually build them around quality meat, fish, eggs, natural fats and ferments. That might mean eggs cooked in ghee, leftover roast chicken, beef mince, steak, wild fish, avocado or sauerkraut.

Nothing particularly elaborate. Just proper food that leaves me feeling nourished, satisfied and steady.

I think we can sometimes make eating well sound far more complicated than it needs to be. Our great-grandparents didn't talk about wellness stacks or optimisation. They understood the value of meat, fish, eggs, broth, natural fats and fermented foods. These were normal foods. Foods that helped nourish robust families for generations. That is the kind of food wisdom I keep returning to.

Organ meats, the old-fashioned way

Organ meats are another important part of that. I genuinely enjoy heart, liver and kidney, and they are among the most nutrient-dense foods we can eat. They were also foods our great-grandparents valued and made use of. Nothing fashionable or overcomplicated, just deeply nourishing food.

But I'm also realistic. I'm not cooking fresh organ meat every day while running a fast-growing business and making space for family life. That's why I regularly take our Heart & Liver capsules. They give me a simple way to include those traditional foods more consistently. I'll often rotate in Kidney too, particularly when I'm feeling a little more histamined out and want to support myself more intentionally.

For me, that captures what Hunter & Gather is trying to do: timeless nourishment, made easier for modern life. The foundations remain the same. We're simply making them easier to live by when life is full.

Evenings: proper food and time together

Evenings are usually about proper food and time together. We often have an organic, slow reared chicken for Sunday lunch. Amy makes an incredible homemade gravy from the roasting juices, together with our Chicken or Beef Bone Broth. It's a simple addition, but it completely transforms the meal. You get the roasting juices, the depth of flavour from the broth and that warm, nourishing feeling that only proper homemade food really gives you.

That's the kind of food I love most. Food that brings people together, makes good use of what is already there and feels grounding and generous. Bone broth also finds its way into stews, sauces and slow-cooked meals throughout the week. It adds richness and nourishment without relying on conventional stock cubes containing ingredients we wouldn't choose ourselves.

Rhythm, not perfection

Ultimately, this is about rhythm rather than perfection. I eat this way because I want to feel well enough to continue serving others. I want to be present for my family, lead with energy, think clearly and keep building Hunter & Gather with purpose. Real food will always come first. Our products don't replace quality meat, fish, eggs, fats, ferments or family meals. They simply make it easier for me to stay close to the way I want to live.

A quick recap of the day:

Electrolytes and creatine in the morning

Collagen in coffee and slow-cooked food

Heart & Liver when life is moving quickly

Kidney when I want more intentional support

Bone broth in gravy, stews and family meals

Nothing extreme. Just small, nourishing choices repeated as part of a steady rhythm. Here's to proper food, stronger foundations and looking after yourself well enough to keep showing up for the people and work that matter.

With warmth,
Jeff
Co-Founder, Hunter & Gather

P.S. You don't need to change everything at once. Start with one addition that fits naturally into the life you already live. Collagen in your coffee, electrolytes in the morning or bone broth in your cooking. Consistency will always beat complexity.
