Reconnecting with Nature: Lessons from our Day with Beyond Domestication

This April, the Hunter & Gather team stepped away from our laptops and got our boots muddy with George and Amber-Rose from Beyond Domestication. We joined their Rewilding Walk to reconnect with the world outside, and we’re buzzing to share the experience with you.

Beyond Domestication teaches The Seven Practices for living a healthier, wilder life: Food, Water, Air, Sunlight, Movement, Mindfulness, and Sleep. Sound familiar? It mirrors our own Nine Pillars of Health: a reminder that true wellbeing is rooted in simplicity and ancestral wisdom.

Here’s a taste of what we got up to:

Foraging

Under George's expert guidance (he's a qualified forager), we picked wild nettles and hawthorn, spotted Turkey Tail mushrooms, and identified native trees. Even in Hampstead Heath, edible plants were everywhere once you knew where to look. “I loved foraging, it opened my eyes to how much food is really out there, even in the heart of London”, observed Meg, Digital Marketing Manager.

Grounding and Movement

We kicked off our shoes, got our feet in the soil, and tried the Hunter-Gatherer squat (spoiler: it’s a lot harder than it looks). “Realising my flexibility needed work was a lightbulb moment,” admitted Hattie, our content manager. “I've been practising my squat every day since!”

Breathwork

Amber, a trained Oxygen Advantage coach, led us through breathing techniques that boost oxygen efficiency and calm the nervous system. It’s amazing how quickly you can reset your whole system.

Mindfulness

We paused to align with our senses: what could we see, hear, smell, and feel? Just five minutes of sensory awareness slowed everything down and brought a deep sense of calm. Before reading on, pause for a moment: take a slow breath, notice what you can see, feel, hear, and smell.

Wild Tea

After a bit of foraging, we brewed fresh fireweed tea. Honestly, it was one of the best cups of tea we’ve ever had.

The day reminded us that health isn't about complicated routines or fancy gear. It's about simple, natural practices woven into everyday life. Foraging for wild greens, moving naturally, breathing properly, and connecting with the earth are timeless practices.

At Hunter & Gather, we believe the path to wellness is right outside your door. A park, a patch of grass, even a few barefoot minutes on natural ground can help you reconnect.
