Answers to some of the most asked questions that we think you will find useful 🙌🏼I've got more questions!
Are these the same as Desiccated Liver Tablets?
Great question! You will often see organ supplements in the UK labelled 'Desiccated Liver Tablets' - desiccated means 'to dry'. Our range of nose-to-tail supplements includes liver tablets, but they are not actually desiccated liver tablets.
This is because we freeze-dry our organs as this helps to preserve the nutrients they contain, rather than using conventional heat to desiccate them, which can affect the nutritional profile.
Why should I take organ meat supplements?
We believe that for optimal health, we should be utilising natural real foods that are free from sugars, grains and inflammatory oils such as canola oil, rapeseed oil or sunflower oil.
When it comes to vitamins and minerals there are a host of synthetic options available that are packed with sugars, bulkers, seed oils, grains, thickeners, flow agents and chemicals; all of which we just do not believe are essential or optimal for humans.
We understand that you can obtain essential vitamins and minerals from organ meats. However, for many the taste, thought of cooking organ meats or the lack of availability of 100% grass-fed organs can be a challenge.
By freeze-drying the organ meats and encapsulating them in a gelatine capsule we can provide the nutrients found in real food organ meats in an easy, accessible, convenient and taste-free vessel.
Organ meats also provide highly bioavailable forms of Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Riboflavin, Copper and Iron - ensuring that the body can absorb and utilise these vitamins and minerals as nature intended and for maximum benefit.
I cannot swallow capsules!
No problem at all! You can simply twist open the capsules and pop the powder into a smoothie or your food.
Are these organ support capsules suitable for the Carnivore Diet or the Ketogenic Diet?
Our entire range of nose-to-tail nutrition organ capsules are made from 100% real food freeze-dried organs, encased within a bovine gelatine capsule.
We do not use vegetable Hypromellose capsules (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is a chemically produced vegetarian-friendly capsule) like many other brands!
What capsules do you use - gelatin or hypromellose?
At Hunter & Gather our aim is to create Optimal Health products that are free from sugars, grains and inflammatory oils. We also
In researching the difference between Hypromellose and gelatine capsules, we made the decision to only use gelatine capsules for all of our nutritional support vitamin tablets.
Hypromellose is short for Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, it is marketed as a vegetarian-friendly replacement for gelatine capsules but is synthetic and unnatural.
Gelatine capsules are made from real food animal sources such as bovine and are Keto, Paleo and Carnivore friendly – as well as minimally processed.
What is in Hunter & Gather organ capsules?
Our nutritional vitamin & mineral support organ capsules are made with real food ingredients only, which means we never use fillers, binders, flow agents or additives.
Our pure capsules are made with freeze-dried liver, pure heart, pure kidney or a liver and heart blend (50% heart and 50% liver) in one capsule. They are all derived from wild roaming, 100% grass-fed Icelandic lamb - encapsulated in a gelatine tablet.
Are the lambs grass-fed or GMO fed?
Not only are the lambs we derive our organs from grass-fed, but they’re also grass-finished!
The lambs that we use are from Iceland and are wild roaming and 100% grass-fed. They are never fed any supplementary grain or soy-based feed. Iceland also has strict rules and regulations in relation to GMO feed and the lambs are therefore never fed genetically modified (GMO) feed.
Are the lambs antibiotic and hormone-free?
The lambs are wild roaming in the Icelandic Mountains and are guaranteed free from any antibiotics or hormones.

Are the Hunter & Gather organ supplements de-fatted?
No, we do not remove the fat from the organ meats that we use in our supplements. This ensures our organ supplements are as bioavailable as possible for maximum benefit.
What should I look for when buying organ meats?
Organ meats and offal are nutrient-dense and packed with vitamins such as B12, Vitamin A, and essential minerals like Iron and copper. But not all organ meats will be of the same quality and there are some key things to consider when shopping for organ meats - especially organ meat supplements, pills or tablets.
Some key questions to ask when buying organ meats or organ meat supplements:
- Are the animals that the organs have come from 100% grass-fed? Ensure that you buy organ meat from wild roaming, grass-fed animals. This will ensure that the animals have not been fed GMO crops or grains. Do not just rely on the term "grass-fed", it must be 100% grass-fed or pasture for life certified to ensure no other feeds are utilised (some animals are ‘grass-finished’ which means they are not 100% grass-fed).
- Are the animals free from antibiotics and hormones? Ensure that the supplier can confirm that the animals were free from both antibiotics and hormones.
- Are supplements defatted? If buying supplements, ensure they are non-defatted so you can achieve optimal absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
- Is the organ meat in the capsules/pills freeze dried? Freeze-drying locks in the benefits of the organ meats and ensures that heat-sensitive biological activity remains intact.
What is the ‘like for like’ tradition to support human organ health?
Our tribal ancestors were clever fellows when it came to nutrition. They were guided by ancestral wisdom and intuition - something many of us are very distanced from in our modern lifestyles.
They had this theory that if you eat the organs of healthy animals it will, in turn, support your own organ health i.e., eating liver to support your liver and heart to support your heart.
With the help of modern-day science, we can see that they were actually onto something. With heart organ meat providing a whopping dose of CoQ10 (which supports blood pressure and heart health) and liver organ meat providing Vitamins A, Vitamin B12 and Iron (which all contribute to a healthy human liver) - eating ‘like for like’ can really be beneficial.
