Homemade Bone Broth With Added Collagen

Bone Broth can be sipped, slurped or even added to soups and stews. This wonder liquid has been hailed as the ultimate in health-promoting elixirs with many users claiming stronger hair, nails, better skin, better gut health plus many more benefits.

The Bone broth process extracts the collagen, vitamin and minerals from the bones and is packed with calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other trace minerals, as well as vitamins which the body can easily absorb and utilise. Many of us are not obtaining enough of these essential nutrients and collagen from our daily diet - due to opting for prime meat cuts or not meat at all. By supplementing with Collagen or bone broth, you can obtain the essential amino acids and collagen recommended for optimal health.  To read more about collagen check out our blog post here

This homemade bone broth also has a double collagen boost by being topped up with our Hunter & Gather collagen peptides - ensuring you get plenty of essential amino acids too.

Suitable for: Paleo, Keto, Whole 30, Sugar-Free, Gluten-Free, Low Carb

What You Need:

  • 1.5 kilos of roasted animal bones (chicken or beef work well!)
  • 2 carrots, unpeeled
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1 onion, chopped in half
  • 2 cloves of garlic, whole
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1-2 teaspoons of dried herbs (any will work!)
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • Filtered water to cover ingredients
  • Hunter and Gather Collagen Peptides (3-4 tablespoons)

 What You Do:

  1. Place all of the bone broth ingredients into a heavy bottomed stock pot or large pot. (A slow cooker can also be used here!)
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow to cook, covered, for 8-24 hours, based on preference and time available.
  3. Once the broth is cooked to the desired length, strain through a fine mesh sieve, add collagen peptides and allow to come to room temperature.
  4. Refrigerate the broth overnight, allowing the fat to solidify on top. (If preferred, the fat can be removed and discarded once it has hardened overnight however we recommend keeping this fat as part of the broth for a good fat boost.)
  5. Use the broth for soups, stews, to add to other dishes or for straight sipping!

*Broth can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days and in the freezer for up to 6 months!
